Moving to Ireland

The American Women's Club of Dublin publishes the highly regarded "Hints for Living in Ireland." It is currently available in print form, but soon will also be available to members and subscribers online.

“Hints” is the definitive resource for any newcomer from "across the pond", an essential information source to be read before moving here, and to keep handy while settling in. Compiled and updated by members of the AWCD who have experienced firsthand all that goes into moving to Ireland. “Hints” is a practical guide to navigating through the everyday issues that new residents will face at some point. It is given to all new members upon joining. “Hints” offers the latest information on all aspects of life in Ireland – details that will smooth your transition.

The eighth edition answers questions such as:

  • How can I get hooked up to the Internet?
  • Who are the providers and what are the costs?
  • How do I convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and from inches to centimeters?
  • How can I get a driver’s license?
  • What is the healthcare system like compared to the States?
  • Where can I take my mother-in-law (or have her take herself) when she comes to visit?
  • What are the schools like? When I am told to “put the nappy in the bin,” what should I do?
…and much more.
